Inspired by the modest island vernacular, a material palette of raw stone and timber allows the home to blend into its surroundings seamlessly. Two traditional, white-washed buildings accommodate the communal kitchen and living room spaces, with both unfolding around a centrally positioned courtyard and an olive tree.

Villa Mandra is located on the Alexandra ridge of Mykonos. From a distance, it is almost submerged in the ridge. Its surroundings are integrated into a beautifully landscaped stone-walled garden. The road is blocked, but the sea and the neighboring island of Delos can be admired at sunset from the ground angle in the horizontal direction.

It has a modest overall aesthetic ensured by many of the traditional materials which have been used throughout the entire site and it blends into the local vernacular by maintaining a simple look and by being organized into several small volumes rather than a single large one which would have otherwise dominated the landscape.

Hidden entirely from the road, the house was designed to have a minimal impact on the natural landscape enabled through two small whitewashed volumes connected by a chestnut pergola sitting atop a podium built into the hillside with stones dug from the site. This configuration separates the private quarters on the lower level with the communal areas on top and ensures that both zones have unobstructed views towards the sea.
